    Thumbs up Apples

My baby love apples, she gets so happy after she eats an apple. She runs and jumps all over the room. I heard it's the natural sugar in apples that makes them do that.

I have heard of pregnant and nursing does being fed meat because some seem to lack some nutrition in their diet at this time , it's not something I've ever done as somehow it doesn't seem right to me rabbits eating meat but maybe someone else here can better advise you on this from their expeirence

I've never given mine chicken but seeing as they are omnivores, don't see that it could hurt. Just watch the salt content !

    Midge occasionally eats slugs *puke*

you dont want to let her eat slugss, they are a big carrier of lung worm, which are a killer

to my knowledge rabbits are herbivors, with the exception of ocasionally eating their young when they cull them, just because they will eat chicken if we offer it them doesnt mean it should be given to them

one of my sisters rabbits before she came here would eat chicken soup if my sister left it unattended

you can tell the diffrence between omnivores, carnivores & herbivores from the teeth structure

carnivores have canines for cutting, sharp cheek teeth for ripping also their last upper premolar & lower premorlar meet to form a carnisal (i know iv spelt that wrong) pair

herbivours have molars for grinding & incisors for chopping

omnivores have a distinct teeth structure of incisors for cutting, canines for ripping & molars for grinding

the tooth structure of a rabbit is i belive something like on either side of the top jaw 3 premolars along with the 2 normal incisors and the 2 peg teeth behind those

bottom jaw on either side has 2 premolars & three molars along with the 2 normal incisors

making a total of 28 teeth if im not mistaken, none of which are canines, indicating that a rabbit is designed to be strictly herbivorus

also their digestive system isnt designed to handle meat either.

I don't let her eat them on purpose, she'll be running around the garden and next thing you know, she's got half a slug in her mouth

Pretty sure they are omnivores. We've seen loads of rabbits at college eat slugs and even a mouse!

technically they are not omnivorus look at the tooth structure no canines they are not designd to eat meat.
also the digestive system is not designed to handle it
however they are greedy and like us will often eat things that they shouldnt. they are like todlers in that respect.

    Talking pick your brains

My two love apple & thumper loves pear so much he gets more on his face than in his mouth he scoffs it so fast.

BUT:- does anyone know whether those japanese apple pears are ok for bunnnies

i've seen them called "ya pears" or "fuji apples" before. They basically are apple shaped, with golden delicious colour and an appley texture but taste like pear and have a pear-type core with hardly any or no pips in??

Not going to give them any cos since they're quite exotic they're more likely to make them ill (not that it would stop the greedy guts eating it).
